The name "Akamatsu Taro" is used by a swordsmith family since ten generations living in Higo country (Kumamoto Prefecture current).

"Akamatsu Taro" was named by Mountain pass(Akamatsu-touge) of his hometown. Akamatsu Taro swordsmith family, who has served for generations as a swordsmith patronized of the Sagara Daimyo(Hitoyoshi-han in HIGO country). They made own material (TAMAHAGANE) from river sands to forge swords. The famous Akamatsu Taro clan works according to the style of the 19th century swordsmith MINAMOTO KIYOMARO.
